In Broward County, the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department administers the Local Planning Agency (LPA) for Volumes 2 and 4 of the Comprehensive Plan. The Broward County Planning Council is the LPA for the Broward County Land Use Plan (Volumes 1 and 3.)
As provided for in the Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act (Chapter 163, Part II Florida Statutes), the LPA has the general responsibility for the conduct of the comprehensive planning program. Specifically the LPA is responsible for the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan or plan amendments and makes recommendations to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners regarding the adoption or amendment of the Comprehensive Plan. The LPA is also responsible for the periodic preparation of Evaluation and Appraisal Reports (EAR) of the Comprehensive Plan.
The LPA provides review and makes recommendations on proposed Comprehensive Plan amendments and EARs at public hearings.
