Earth Day Waterway Cleanup at Deerfield Island Park
More than 100 volunteers arrived at Sullivan Park on April 20th to celebrate Earth Day by removing trash and debris along the shoreline of Deerfield Island Park. Members of the Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton Communities came out to support Deerfield Island Park, which straddles the Broward and Palm Beach County Line.
Approximately 60 volunteers boarded paddleboard, kayaks, canoes, small boats and jet skis to collect the garbage which is carried by the currents through the waterways and finds itself along the shoreline. Volunteers circled the entire island and collected a large amount of debris which was then collected and processed by the Deerfield Beach Recycling Division. The success of this event couldn’t have been possible without the help of Dixie Divers and Island Water Sports. The Earth Day Waterway Clean-up will be an annual event for community residents to look forward to.
