Two of our regional parks offer horseback riding and pony rides: Tradewinds Park and Tree Tops Park. The Tradewinds Park stables are county-operated, while the horses and ponies at Tree Tops are part of a privately owned business called AA-D Horse Adventures. There are also equestrian trails at Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center and Vista View Park.

Tradewinds Park Stables

Guided Trail Rides: Offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and designated holidays at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. Weekday rides are available from October through May by appointment only. We recommend that you call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule weekday trail rides. Weekend and weekday trail rides are approximately one hour long, with the weekend rides available on a first-come, first-served basis. Trail ride sales close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled ride time. The cost is $35 plus tax per person, and payment is accepted at the park's General Store. Children must be 9 years old or at least 52 inches tall, and they must be accompanied by an adult. The weight limit is 200 pounds, and no double riding is permitted.

Gift Certificates: Available for purchase at the Tradewinds Park office. Each gift certificate is redeemable for one guided trail ride within 12 months from the date of issuance and during normal operating hours. Contact the Tradewinds Park Stables at 954-357-8720 for information on redeeming gift certificates. Each certificate equals one guided trail ride and costs $35 plus applicable sale tax. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash and will not be replaced or refunded.

Pony Rides: Offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and designated holidays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. Children must be shorter than 52 inches tall to ride the ponies. The cost is $3 plus tax per ride or $9 plus tax for four rides, with payment taken at the park's General Store.

Horse Trail Do's and Don'ts

Educational Farm: The park's farm complex adjacent to the stables includes farm animals that can be seen from outside the fence during park operating hours. Public farm tours are offered the third full weekend of each month, with tours starting at 10:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., noon, 1:15 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2:45 p.m., weather permitting. The cost is $3 per person for the 30-minute tours, which are on a first-come, first-served basis. Farm tours close when each group reaches its maximum size of 30 people. Check here for scheduling an Educational Farm Tour.

Horse Camp: Tradewinds Park Stables offers a horse camp in the summer and during school breaks for ages 9 to 16. Summer Horse Camp is offered in one-day, two-day, and four-day sessions, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Campers must provide their own lunches and refreshments. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Participants should also bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a towel.

In addition to receiving instruction on breeds and colors of horses, appropriate riding equipment, and horse care, students will receive riding lessons and the opportunity to participate in other activities. Call the stables at 954-357-8720 well in advance of any school holidays or summer break to register and for fees.

Equine Birthday Party Packages: Offered at $11 plus tax per child, with a minimum of 10 children and a maximum of 20. The package includes: rental of one 15-foot-by-15-foot tent that accommodates 20 to 30 guests, five picnic tables (two adult, two child-size, one wheelchair-accessible), one grill, three trash cans, recycling containers, two pony ride tickets per paid child, party invitations, and a special shirt for the birthday boy or girl.

Other services are available for additional fees: guided trail rides for children 9 years of age or at least 52 inches tall at $35 per person, and, on the third full weekend of the month only, bounce-house tickets for $1.50 per person for 15-minute sessions, and additional barn tour tickets at $3 per person.

Party Packages do not include the park's gate admission fee of $1.50/person (children 5 and under free), which is charged on weekends and designated holidays. Prepaid gate passes are available for purchase in the park office for Party Packages purchased at least two weeks in advance.
