EcoAction Workday
- Saturday, May 11, 9 a.m. Volunteers clean up trash, plant native plants, and/or remove non-native invasive plants. Students can earn community service hours for graduation and college scholarships, and others can help improve and preserve the environment. Volunteers should dress appropriately with long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes that can get dirty. Participants should bring gloves, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and drinking water. Extra tools such as shovels, rakes, and hand pruners are welcome. A volunteer form must be filled out in order to participate. Free.
Turtle Time - Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m. What has a beak, a shell, and a skeleton you can see? A turtle, of course. Bring the family and learn about these amazing ancient reptiles with a presentation and activities. Starts with activities at 2 p.m., followed by a presentation and a meet-and-greet with some turtle ambassadors at 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of Secret Woods. Free and for all ages.
Mycorrhizal Magic Workshop - Thursday, May 16, 7 p.m. Come and learn nature's way of making your plants more disease resistant, drought tolerant, and nutrient rich, through the cultivation and application of mycorrhizal fungi. Leave with inoculated plugs for your landscape. A $20 donation to the Friends of Secret Woods volunteer group is requested.
Wonderful Reptiles - Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. Meet some of the native reptiles that call South Florida and Secret Woods home. Free.
May Flowers and Beautiful Butterflies - Sunday, May 19, 2 p.m. Celebrate the joy and beauty flowers have to offer. Plant a seed, learn about native flowers in our area, and have fun with flower crafts and activities. Activities begin at 2 p.m., followed by a flower lecture at 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of Secret Woods volunteer group. Free and for all ages.
Jamming in the Park - Sunday, May 26, 1 p.m. Bring your favorite instrument and join in an acoustic music jam. Free.
