FEC Begins Laying Tracks for New Port Everglades Rail Yard
Rail tracks and crane pads are being installed for the new Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which is slated to open this summer. The $73 million, 43-acre near-dock rail facility in the Port's Southport containerized cargo area will be used to more efficiently transfer domestic and international shipping containers between ship and rail, and will replace FEC's existing 12-acre intermodal yard which is currently located several miles from Port Everglades on Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Broward County unveiled an improved Broward.org, the County's official website, with new features and functionality. The home page and several sites off the main site already boast the updated look and services, which features a "responsive design" that automatically adjusts the content to better display on different devices, including smaller mobile and tablet devices, without losing functionality. Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess Takes off from Port Everglades
Princess Cruises’ new Royal Princess ship sailed from Port Everglades, its U.S. winter home on October 29. Broward County, whose popular Twitter account, ReadyBroward, is an official source of emergency information for residents, is among the first organizations in Florida and the nation to participate in Twitter’s new public safety service, Twitter Alert. Subscribers can receive emergency information such as public safety warnings and evacuation instructions from vetted, credible organizations, immediately and in real time, through their traditional Twitter timeline feed, and as a special notification or text message on a mobile device.
