I fell into a rut in 2008 and started to put on those unwanted pounds all too familiar to most of us. I hesitantly accepted the County’s “Maintain Don’t Gain” Challenge during the holiday season of 2010 as a way of getting started on my weight loss journey. To my surprise it worked! It was the extra nudge that was needed, I even lost a pound! The light came on and I was motivated to stay the course and get as healthy and fit as I could.
Being a part of a group here at Water and Wastewater Services where we support each other with our fitness goals for the past 11 years was also a valuable piece to my success. I must add that the nutritional consultations that we have in our wellness program was the icing on the cake! They helped me assess my food intake, portion control, as well as how to fit in little guilty pleasures that I so love. I also managed to win the quarterly “Biggest Winner Challenge” and took on the role as Wellness Captain. Having this position motivated me even more to keep on moving and encourage others to do the same! The Quarterly Ceremony is so much fun. It is a great way to celebrate our accomplishments, and exchange everything from healthy recipes to our personal success stories.
I managed to lose 17 pounds slowly over the year and am proud to say I have kept it off! What a way to end my career with the county, I am now retiring healthy and happy, I will be able to enjoy my retirement and have much to look forward to.
I want to thank Broward County Government and Humana for investing in their employee’s today so we can have a brighter future tomorrow!
The key is to MOVE IT!
