captivating new voice in American fiction, reminiscent of Kaye
Heart of Palm BookGibbons, Lee Smith, Anne Tyler, and Fannie Flagg.  Told with
wry humor and compassion, Heart of Palm is an indelible portrait
of a small town
undergoing rapid development, and one
dysfunctional, unforgettable family choosing between a
comfortable—if unfulfilling—status quo, and the upheaval that
comes with the promise of the new.

Laura Lee Smith’s short fiction has appeared in The Florida Review, Natural Bridge, Bayou, and was selected by guest editor Amy Hempel for inclusion in New Stories from the South in 2010
