I want to wish you a Happy National Library Week, and I hope you join us in celebrating April 13-19 by visiting your favorite Broward County Library.

It has been a full year since my arrival in South Florida, which began with writing a Strategic Business Plan for 2014-2016. This plan focuses on the future by reinvigorating library services with a focus on fabrication, design and creativity as it relates to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as well as other innovative new services. The Libraries Division now offers a space with 3D printers and state-of-the-art design software for the inventive mind, called the Creation Station at the Main Library, with other Creation Stations in the works. More Info: Broward.org/Library/CreationStation

We have also focused in on libraries as a social place with our Destination Fridays events for adults, held regularly at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. So far, destinations have included New Orleans and South Africa, with Paris scheduled for April 4 and Brazil on June 6. Network and have a great time learning about different places in the world through food, art exhibits, live music, and yes - books! More Info: Broward.org/Library/Fridays

As our customer, you play a vital role in our library system and we want to know what you think! We have scheduled several Community Vision Sessions over the next few months and I hope to see you at one of them. These sessions will be an opportunity for you to learn about our plans for the future and to provide your input. See you there! More Info: Broward.org/Library/Vision

Very Best,
Skye Patrick
