A Broward County Library card is the only card you need to unlock a world of information and educational resources! With this card, you can:
- access more than three million books, videos, CDs, DVDs, CD ROMs, and audiobooks
- search the online or traditional catalog for library materials
- place holds on materials you are interested in
- renew materials
Types of Cards
Resident Card - People who live, work or attend school in Broward County are eligible for a library card, free of charge.
Courtesy Card – There is a Courtesy Card for non-residents who go to school or work in Broward County. Courtesy cards are valid for one year. Applicants must present identification as listed below and any one of the following:
- Current school schedule (with school address)
- Current school ID (must identify a school in Broward County)
- Employment ID (must identify a Broward County employer address)
- Letter from school registrar's office
- Payroll stub showing Broward County address of employer
Visitor Card – A Visitor Card is valid for up to six months. Applicant must present identification as described below with an out-of-county permanent address and one of the following to verify Broward County address:
- lease agreement
- rental agreement
Non-Resident Card – A Non-Resident Card is valid for up to one year and costs $50.
Non-Resident Computer Card - A computer library card that allows visitors to Broward County access to Broward County Library’s thousands of public-use computer services seven days a week and costs $2, non-refundable.

When you apply for a Library Card at a library, or the first time you check materials out of the library after having applied for a card online, you must go to the Circulation Services Desk to present valid identification. Valid identification includes any one of the following:
If you do not have one of these forms of identification, then you will need ONE of the items listed in Section A along plus one of the items listed in Section B.

- Out-of-state or international driver's license (if now residing permanently in Broward County)
- Resident or condo card
- Credit card (with photo only)

- Broward County Transit card
- Work ID (with photo only)
- Wholesale club card
- Resident alien card

- Voter identification/registration card
- Auto registration
- Utility bill
- Check imprinted with name and address

Who’s eligible for a library card?

Is there a fee for a library card?
There is no fee for a library card if you live, work or attend school in Broward County.

How do I renew my library card?
Broward County Library cards are issued for a 3-year time period. For address verification and security reasons, you are unable to renew your library card online. You can renew your library card at any Broward County Library branch. Please make sure to bring proper ID.
What kind of identification is required for a library card?
Generally, you must have one of the following: a Driver’s License, Photo ID Card or Firearms License issued by the State of Florida. If you don't have one of these documents, you may still qualify for a Library Card. View Identification Requirements
I’m not a Broward County resident. Am I still eligible for a library card?
Non-residents who go to school or work in Broward County; visitors with a permanent Broward County address (lease or rental agreement), and non-residents are eligible for a library card. Fees may apply, and you must apply in person at one of our Library locations.
How do I apply for a library card?
If you're a Broward County resident, you can apply online, or at any Broward County Library location. If you're not a resident, or if you need to reregister for a library card, please visit one of our libraries. If qualified, your library card will be mailed out within 4 business days.
When can I start using my card?
You can use your new library card immediately for online services and databases. If you applied for a card online, the first time you check materials out of the library, you must go to the Circulation Services Desk to present valid identification, fill out a Broward County Library Card Application/Contract and sign a Responsibility Statement.
