NATURE OF WORK

This is skilled work in imaging for the Medical Examiner Division.   Work involves digital photography and applicable software applications.  The majority of the work is conducted in the autopsy suite but some scene documentation will be required.   The photographer will process and preserve autopsy and death scene images and prepare them for use in court.    Assistance with research activities and grant applications may be applicable.  Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for technical quality and achievement of desired goals and objectives.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Operates digital cameras including specialized photographic equipment and techniques; processes and preserves pictures of autopsies and death scenes; preserves evidentiary images for use in investigations and/or as evidence in court.

Photographs death scenes, autopsies, external examinations and disasters.

Inventories, stores and maintains photographic supplies and equipment for the Medical Examiner Division; makes minor repairs to photographic equipment.

Prepares and submits images for case files and reports for photographic assignments.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of methods used in preparing and presenting photographic evidence.

Knowledge of photochemistry and optics.

Knowledge of special techniques used in latent photography.

Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, equipment and materials of modern forensic photography.

Ability to take still pictures suitable for use as permanent records.

Skill in the use and maintenance of photographic equipment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school, two (2) years of experience in professional photographic work including experience in photographing, developing and custom printing; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Position involves field work and driving is required.  Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment.  Must be able to drive. Must obtain and maintain authority to drive on County business.
