NATURE OF WORK
This is complex independent accounting work and may include some supervision of clerical staff.
The nature of the work involves the downloading of electronic files on a weekly and monthly basis and those files are exported to users in the field for completion. Documents are returned with proper authorization for processing and reconciliation to bank statements. Any discrepancies must be resolved by the incumbent through effective communication with all levels of management. Receives electronic files from Florida Power & Light and reconcile discrepancies before payments are issued. Duties are performed in accordance with correct accounting procedures and statutory requirements. Work is reviewed for accuracy and conformance to policy.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Maintains the financial records of expenditures on purchases for the County, including auditing of invoices, preparing vouchers, posting, reconciling, preparing reports to top management.
Supervises the process of electronic billing and prepares statistical reports for disbursements which will aid management in evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
Processes payments to suppliers in compliance with established procedures, ordinances and Florida statutes.
Analyzes, reconciles and imports into spreadsheets electronic data interface reports with scheduled Florida Power & Light payments in Advantage Financial System.
Requests statements and invoices from vendors for payment processing.
Research vendor inquiries, resolve payment discrepancies from vendor calls and correspondence.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of computer skills such as WordPerfect, Excel, Lotus, Word.
Considerable knowledge of office accounting methods or governmental bookkeeping practices and procedures.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
Ability to plan, organize, and review work of subordinate clerical and bookkeeping personnel if needed.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by course work in bookkeeping, four (4) years experience in journey level bookkeeping work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
