NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of mass transit vehicles.
Work involves directing the activities of transit mechanics, coach service attendants, and clerical and stores personnel with emphasis on the efficient utilization of personnel, material, equipment, and facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and general observation.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Plans, directs and coordinates work, and establishes priorities in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of mass transit vehicles.
Supervises subordinate supervisory personnel engaged in vehicle maintenance.
Participates in grievance hearings and other activities relative to labor relations.
Directs the implementation and maintenance of record keeping including preventative maintenance, parts usage, fuel consumption, and mileage per vehicle.
Assists in the drafting of specifications for shop equipment and vehicle modification.
Insures the availability of parts or other material necessary to complete work.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of motorized public passenger vehicle maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy duty diesels.
Ability to plan and execute a preventative maintenance program.
Ability to plan, assign, organize, and review the activities of subordinates.
Ability to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; nine (9) years experience, including supervisory experience, in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy duty diesel vehicles, preferably in a mass transit or vehicle transportation operation; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
