This is professional work with the Sexual Assault Treatment Center / Child Protection Team (CPT) involving in-depth interviews, assessments and clinical supervision of children and their families in high-risk populations where there have been allegations of abuse/neglect such as: domestic violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, mental health, alcohol abuse, and/or drug abuse.
As part of the CPT, incumbents provide assessment services to supplement the child protective investigation activities of the Department of Children and Families and designated sheriff’s offices.
The unit is staffed 24/7. Incumbents participate in scheduled after hour’s on-call on a rotating basis.
Work involves application of a variety of diagnostic, assessment and forensic techniques within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through clinical supervision, staffings, reports and observation of work results.
Interviews children, family members, and collaterals as needed to obtain medical, forensic, and psychosocial information about family history and information pertinent to the allegations.
Conducts assessments and prepares reports. Provides completed reports to child protective investigators within the time frames consistent with program requirements and best practice.
Provides recommendations to child protective investigators to assist in their investigation and service recommendations based on information gathered from assessment services and collateral information.
Prepares progress notes, reports, and documentation on assigned clients. Maintains client records. Uses basic computer-based office applications.
Prepares cases for, and arranges and conducts team staffings and participates in the development of the recommendations to provide child protective investigators, law enforcement and child advocates.
Coordinates retrieval of pertinent records for inclusion in assessment services from hospitals, medical providers, psychiatric facilities, medical examiner’s officers and other treatment providers as needed to complete assessments and make recommendations.
Participate in scheduled after hour’s on call.
Attends staff meetings, and scheduled training sessions to include successful completion of a minimum of eight hours of training per year in child abuse, abandonment, and neglect, and as necessary to maintain licensure.
Provides depositions and court testimony.
Coordinates client services and referrals to community agencies.
Conducts training on child abuse/neglect in the community for professional staff such as child abuse investigators, law enforcement, school board, child advocates, medical professionals, mental health professionals and others as designated by the team coordinator.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of causes, risk factors, and family dynamics of child abuse and/or neglect and sexual assault and related treatment.
Some knowledge of judicial system processes and laws as they relate to specific areas of child abuse / neglect and/or sexu¬al battery as required for area of assignment.
Knowledge of psychological concepts of human behavior and development.
Some knowledge of public health laws and state regulations (65D-30) applicable to the area of assignment and confidentiality laws.
Some knowledge of social casework and crisis intervention methods, their techniques and application.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to establish rapport with clients under adverse conditions and to conduct con¬fidential inter¬views with mature judgment.
Ability to learn and comply with County and agency policy and procedures.
Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive individual and case history reports using computer-based applications.
Ability to properly interpret psychological or psychiatric information and make sound recommendations to assist child protective investigators with their investigations and service recommendations.
Ability to obtain secure psychological or psychiatric case information from persons inter¬viewed and from medical or psychiatric sources.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Master’s degree in Nursing or a Human Services field such as Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or other Behavioral Science from an accredited college or university; two (2) years of post-bachelor professional work experience working with children and their families one (1) year of which must be experience working with abused and neglected children.
Work requires possession of a valid Florida driver’s license, the ability to drive, and the ability to obtain and maintain authorization to drive on County business.
