NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced professional planning work in the conduct of planning activities and operations.
Work involves lead responsibility for the execution, development and implementation of section work programs, projects and studies. Employees work with a high degree of independence, initiative and latitude in performance of assignments. Supervision and direction is provided by a professional superior who reviews and evaluates work for the attainment of desired results by analysis of work procedures and assistance on unusually difficult problems.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assumes project responsibilities for planning activities and operations involving development management, transportation, economic development, comprehensive planning, data base systems, zoning and capital improvements programming.
Presents planning matters at public meetings.
Provides information and assistance to the general public and other governmental agencies.
Executes programs, projects and studies within areas of expertise.
Coordinates the activities of subordinate staff as assigned.
Performs related work as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of general planning principles and practices.
Knowledge of sources of information, current literature and recent developments regarding urban planning.
Ability to organize and analyze information, and perform planning research.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to coordinate work of subordinate personnel.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.
Skill in one or more functional planning specialties.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A Master's Degree in urban planning or related field; two (2) years experience in responsible planning work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
