NATURE OF WORK
This is professional work developing and implementing educational programs in the area of 4H and Youth Development.
Work involves coordination, administration and provision of public information and education programs including, but not limited to; recruitment, screening, training, and development of volunteer program leaders from parents and other sources in targeted areas, educational program development, development and utilization of multi-cultural neighborhood and university research, and identification and acquisition of grant funding in the area of 4H and Youth Development. Duties include developing workshops and making presentations, developing brochures and publications, formulating community and foundation partnerships, implementing educational program activity, and reporting on annual impact. This work serves County residents, 4H youth, youth at risk, and other interested clientele. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees and/or volunteers. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior for achievement of desired results.
Supervises and directs the planning and development of programs and projects, including formulation of an annual plan of work, goals, objectives, and priorities.
Researches grants for funding; prepares applications for federal, state, and local grants; monitors and evaluates existing grant programs.
Explore and develop community partnerships with representative groups such as other County divisions and departments, the School Board, the Sheriff's Office, housing authorities, University staff and faculty, and private enterprise to promote, develop, and assist in program objectives and fund-raising events.
Develop presentations for diverse, multi-cultural, targeted audiences to identify, recruit, screen, motivate, and develop volunteer leadership necessary to implement 4H clubs, including youth at risk.
Coordinates activities of the 4H Club program which includes educational, self-esteem, leadership and career skills development.
Coordinates and oversee the activities of the 4H Foundation Board of Directors.
Manage entrepreneurial education program activities within the 4H and Youth Program.
Produce annual reporting as per University, Federal, and County requirements; produce Annual Achievement reports.
Acts as liaison between the Extension Service and the general public.
May supervise subordinate professional and clerical employees.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge Abilities and Skills
Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of youth and adult volunteer educational programming and evaluation, particularly in the areas of youth at risk and 4H.
Considerable knowledge of human services, public, and private programs available to the community and methods of utilizing these resources to assist youth and youth at risk.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of management, organization, program administration, public communication, and education.
Knowledge of multi-cultural segments of the population.
Knowledge of current regulations and procedures related to federal, state, and local grant processes.
Ability to initiate and manage multiple programs and priorities.
Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate staff and volunteers.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in education, public or business administration, sociology, psychology, or related field; considerable experience in development and management of direct service delivery programs, including experience in educational program development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
