NATURE OF WORK
This is administrative and professional community liaison work in planning, developing and implementing community relations and outreach activities for County owned airports. Work involves initiating interaction with civic and homeowner’s groups to educate the public on airport related issues; collecting data and developing information for community distribution; communicating to the community, consultants and division staff information on airport issues and initiatives. Assignments are received from the department director in the form of broad instructions or general program objectives. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment based on experience in developing courses of action and recommendations. Work is reviewed by the department director through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Provides professional level staff assistance to an administrative superior in developing and coordinating airport community relation and outreach programs and projects.
Develops and implements community relation and outreach programs for airport issues and initiatives.
Develops and distributes brochures, pamphlets, flyers and public service announcements to the community to increase awareness of airport issues and initiatives.
Prepares reports and related data.
Prepares and conducts community presentations.
Attends conferences and public and professional meetings; confers with local, state, and federal officials, contractors, vendors, civic leaders, and the general public regarding departmental operations; addresses public groups.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of public administration with particular reference to county or municipal administration and management.
Considerable knowledge of county laws, ordinances, and regulations on airport related issues.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of communications and public relations.
Considerable knowledge of research techniques, sources, and availability of information.
Ability to implement administrative procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness.
Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to plan, develop and implement, community relations training modules and programs.
Ability to conduct research and special studies, prepare and maintain reports and disseminate information.
Ability to plan, coordinate and implement special projects and/or events.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in public or business administration, communications or related field; four (4) years experience involving development, coordination, and presentation of Community Outreach Programs; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
