NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible professional work at the administrative level of the library system.
Work involves interpretation and implementation of all library policies, staffing, and supervision of major division offices and coordination of support services within the library system and with other agencies. Work is subject to review for the attainment of desired management objectives and conformity with established policies and procedures.
This classification is distinguished from Librarian IV by the additional experience required.
Supervises and assists in maintaining controls for all library budgetary codes.
Serves as library staff officer for contacts and communication services within the county library system and the community at large.
Attends a variety of governmental and library meetings, conferences, and hearings to present recommendations, acquire information, and interpret library policies.
Assists subordinate librarians in planning, coordinating, and organizing specific functional, programmatic, and physical aspects of library services and facilities.
Conducts assigned library research, procedural and administrative studies; prepares reports relative to recommended solutions or courses of action; devises operating forms and procedures.
Performs related work as required.

Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, practices, and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the field of library science and administration appropriate to the level of specialization.
Considerable knowledge of the principles of management, supervision, and organization and their application to the administration of library affairs.
Considerable knowledge of research techniques and the sources and availability of current information.
Ability to analyze a variety of administrative problems, to make sound recommendations as to their solution, and to prepare working procedures.
Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinates.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A Master's Degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association; six (6) years experience of a supervisory nature in the operation of a library system, including two (2) years in administrative aspects of the work.
