NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing and managing the activities of the Corporate/Community Section of the Cruise Marketing Division of Port Everglades.
Work involves serving as the public information officer for the seaport, and assisting in the promotion and marketing of Port services. Work also includes preparing presentations for, and representing the Director of Port Everglades at various intergovernmental, trade and community relations activities. Supervision may be exercised over subordinates. Assignments are received in the form of broad policy statements, and work is reviewed through conferences, reports and evaluation of program results.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Directs the operations of the Corporate/Community Relations Section.
Acts as spokesperson for all media inquiries, sets up interviews for the Director of Port Everglades with local media and trade publications.
Provides marketing services support to the Trade Development and Cruise Marketing Divisions.
Oversees public outreach programs including staff speakers bureau, special promotional events and Port tours for the public. Prepares section operating budget and monitors operating plan implementation.
Prepares and distributes news releases, promotional publications and informational materials; develops and makes presentations at public and private forums on seaport issues.
Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public communications.
Considerable knowledge of the methods of conducting public information and community relations programs.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of advertising and marketing.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to develop effective speeches, position statements and in-house magazine presentations.
Ability to make public presentations and communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to organize and supervise projects and/or special events requiring simultaneous multiple tasks.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in marketing, journalism or closely related field; a minimum of four (4) years experience in public information or public relations, including two (2) years experience within a seaport environment; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
