NATURE OF WORK
This is technical and analytical work in automation systems implementation and development.
Work involves providing technical support of automation systems which operate in a microcomputer, minicomputer and/or LAN/WAN environment. Duties include assisting in analyzing work procedures, planning and recommending automation enhancements and solutions. Work may also include some systems administrative responsibilities in an assigned division or agency. Work is reviewed by an administrative or professional superior through frequent consultation and evaluation of program results.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assists in planning, organizing and conducting studies of organizational operations to identify areas for the application of automated technologies.
Analyzes work flow processes and develops recommendations for improvements and solutions using automated systems.
Assists in the configuration and implementation of microcomputers, minicomputers, and/or LAN's/WAN’s specific to area of assignment.
May act as systems administrator for a division or agency.
Prepares requirements analysis and documentation in order to procure upgrades or additional equipment.
Meets with user personnel for applications analysis, demonstrations and training.
Installs new and upgraded systems and applications software and hardware.
Responds within established policies and procedures to calls or inquiries from user personnel to resolve current hardware, software, peripheral equipment, or network problems.
Assists in installing, configuring and maintaining network and communications software; troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software and network problems.
Maintains records and reports on systems and software specifications and configuration.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of operating system components relevant to area of assignment.
Knowledge of the current principles and practices of computer systems technology.
Knowledge of existing hardware, software and network systems.
Some knowledge of the current research and trends of new computer-related technologies.
Ability to plan and conduct studies on work procedures to identify potential areas of automated system application.
Ability to plan, organize and conduct informal training for user agency personnel.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network related problems.
Ability to analyze technical material and documentation.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in the use of computer and peripheral equipment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Completion of two years of college level course work in computer science or related field; two (2) years experience in supporting users and analyzing computer systems specific to area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
