NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized work in the control of all tangible personal property owned by the County.
Work involves the maintenance of computer records accounting for all fixtures and other nonconsumable personal property in county departments, divisions, agencies, boards, and authorities. Work is performed independently but in conformance with established procedures and regulations. Work is reviewed upon completion through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Issues coded property control identification number and provides for permanent marking when received.
Establishes property control master record containing purchase voucher number, warranty, date, cost, manufacturer, location, physical condition on receipt and similar information.
Maintains a system of unit control accounts indicating value of all county owned property; balances departmental ledger records as items are purchased, transferred, and sold.
Recommends to superior which items of personal property should be declared surplus; recommends transfer of property from one agency to another; recommends renovation or disposal of property through appropriate procedures.
Conducts periodic physical inventory and verification of property using portable computers.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of personal property inventory methods and procedures.
Knowledge of state statutes and local ordinances governing the control of governmental tangible personal property.
Knowledge of basic inventory procedures as applied to maintaining property valuation records.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; some experience in the use of microcomputers (MS DOS) or in inventory systems maintenance and control; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
