NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible specialized bookkeeping and accounting work involving a variety of bookkeeping operations.
Work involves difficult financial record keeping work, requiring the exercise of judgment within general guidelines. Work also normally involves skilled typing ability; however, the level of responsibility of the work as it relates to financial record keeping rather than typing is considered as the primary factor,. Work is normally reviewed only for compliance with desired results.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from an Account Clerk I by the level of difficulty in financial record keeping and by the additional experience required.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Compiles, reviews, records and reconciles financial transactions within general guidelines.
Maintains general and subsidiary records according to established account classifications; posts entries from supporting records.
Posts expenditures to budgetary accounts.
Prepares periodic and special financial and statistical reports.
Audits payrolls, invoices and warrants; computes redemptions.
Assembles data and prepares bills; prepares analysis of receipts or expenditures.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping and accounting.
Knowledge of government accounting systems and procedures.
Ability to apply bookkeeping principles to the maintenance of complex fiscal and accounting records.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in the operation of a typewriter.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Successful completion of job related tests. Four (4) years experience in the maintenance of financial records desired.
