CHILD PROTECTION TEAM INTAKE COORDINATOR

NATURE OF WORK
 
This is advanced professional work with the Sexual Assault Treatment Center/Child Protection Team (CPT) conducting in-depth interviews and intake assessments of victims of child abuse and neglect, assigning cases to CPT clinical staff based on complexity of issues presented, and coordinating services.  As part of the CPT, incumbents provide assessment services to supplement the child protective investigation activities of the Department of Children and Families and designated sheriff’s offices.
 
Work involves application of a variety of case coordination tasks, including assignment of cases, abuse review, data entry, diagnostic, assessment, and forensic techniques within established policies and procedures.  Work is reviewed through clinical supervision, staffings, reports, and observation of work results.
 
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Completes intake and referral on victims of child abuse/neglect. 
Assigns CPT cases to team members based on complexity of issues presented.
 
Attends staff meetings and scheduled training sessions.
Coordinates receipt of pertinent case records for inclusion in assessment services.
 
Attends annual required training in the area of child abuse abandonment and neglect to include Dynamics, treatment and Florida Statutes.
 
Serves as back-up to Case Coordinator I’s to complete assessments and send reports to child protective investigators upon completion within the time frames consistent with program requirements and best practice.
 
Composes or prepares correspondence, and technical reports, notifications, and related documents using computer-based applications.
 
Data entry into designated computer-based applications in accordance with contract requirements.
 
Coordinates client services and referrals to community agencies.
Interviews children, family members, and collaterals, as needed, to obtain medical, forensic, and psychosocial information about allegations of child abuse and neglect.
 
Prepares cases for, arranges, and conducts team staffings, and participates in the development of the recommendations.

Prepares progress notes, reports, and documentation on assigned clients. 
 
Maintains client records. Uses basic computer-based office applications.
 
Provides depositions and court testimony.
 
Provides recommendations to child protective investigators regarding the safety and well-being of the alleged child victims based on information gathered from assessment services and collateral information.
 
Performs related work as required.
 
 
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
 
Knowledge of child abuse and/or neglect and sexual assault dynamics, treatment and related Florida Statutes.

Knowledge of psychological concepts of human behavior and development.
 
Knowledge of social casework and crisis intervention methods, their techniques and application.
 
Some knowledge of judicial system process and laws as it relates to specific areas of sexual battery as required for area of assignment.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
 
Ability to complete data entry and prepare accurate and comprehensive reports using computer-based applications.
 
Ability to establish rapport with clients under adverse conditions and to conduct confidential interviews with mature judgment.

Ability to learn and comply with County and agency policy and procedures.
 
Ability to properly interpret psychological or psychiatric information and make sound recommendations.
 
Ability to secure psychological or psychiatric case information from persons interviewed and from medical or psychiatric sources.
 
Some knowledge of public health laws and state regulations (65D-30) applicable to the area of assignment and confidentiality laws.
 
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression.
 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or other Behavioral Science from an accredited college or university; two (2) years of professional work experience working with children and their families that includes one (1) year of experience involving work with abused and neglected children.
 
Requires possession of a valid Florida driver’s license and the ability to drive and to obtain and maintain authorization to drive on County business.
