SYSTEMS NETWORK ANALYST III

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced professional, technical and analytical work with administrative responsibility in automation systems implementation and development.

Work involves providing high-level technical support of large scale automation systems which operate in a microcomputer, minicomputer and/or LAN/WAN environment. Duties include analyzing work procedures, planning, recommending and implementing solutions and automation enhancements. Work requires responsibility for systems administration and supervision in an assigned division or agency. Work is reviewed by an administrative or professional superior through consultations and evaluation of program results.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification is distinguished from a Systems Network Analyst II by the additional experience and training required, by the complexity and scope of the assignments, and by the supervisory responsibilities.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, organizes and conducts studies of large-scale organizational operations; identifies areas for the application of automated technologies.

Reviews analyses of work flow processes and develops recommendations for improvements and solutions using automated systems.

Configures systems equipment to user needs and maintains installation through stages of implementation.

May supervise technical subordinates in the installation and operation of automation systems.

Acts as systems administrator for a division or agency with large scale, diversified automation systems.

Meets with user personnel for applications analysis, demonstrations and training.

Researches, tests and installs new and upgraded systems and applications software and hardware.

Responds within established policies and procedures to calls or inquiries from user personnel to resolve current hardware, software, peripheral equipment, or network problems.

Writes and maintains records, reports and documentation on systems and software specifications and configuration.

Plans, designs, installs, configures and maintains network and communications hardware and software; troubleshoots and resolves network hardware, software and network problems.

Prepares and reviews cost-benefit and requirements analyses for large-scale automation projects.

Evaluates new systems hardware and software.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of operating system components and language relevant to area of assignment.

Considerable knowledge of the current principles and practices of computer systems technology and project management.

Considerable knowledge of existing hardware, software and network systems.

Considerable knowledge of the current research and trends of new computer-related technologies.

Ability to plan and conduct studies on work procedures to identify potential areas of automated system application.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software and network related problems.

Ability to plan, organize and conduct informal training for user agency personnel.

Ability to analyze technical material and documentation.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

Skill in the use of computer and peripheral equipment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science or related field; four (4) years experience in supporting users and analyzing computer systems specific to area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
