GFLCVB SALES MANAGER

NATURE OF WORK

This is professional sales and marketing work in promoting the convention and tourism trades in Broward County.

 

Work involves the promotion of convention and tourism business for the Greater Fort Lauderdale area through personal solicitation, trade show presentations, and direct marketing methods.   Employee in this class promotes the benefits of the destination to prospective clients by promoting convention facilities, hotel availability and other attractions.   Duties also include tourism and convention research and planning.   Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees.   Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.   Work is reviewed periodically through conferences, written reports and observations of results obtained.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

 

Conducts solicitation to national organizations to encourage convention and tourist activities in Broward County; develops and gives trade show presentations; responds to inquiries from potential clients and the general public.

 

Solicits key convention prospects within a carefully selected territory.

 

Establishes and monitors major departmental objectives and individual goals.

 

Maintains effective networking relationships within the national leisure travel and local hospitality industry.

 

Provides counsel and assistance in closing sales with high level major city-wide convention customers and participates in trade shows/promotions.

 

Develops and arranges distribution of collateral materials; develops special interest travel promotions; compiles direct mail lists.

 

Conducts research for marketing plan, and annual research program; compiles data for statistical reports; maintains historical data; prepares special reports as required.

 

Maintains contact with local, regional and national trade show associations.

 

Plans and organizes sales trips, site inspections, and familiarization trips.

 

Performs related work as required.

Ability to direct and implement and effective marketing plan.

 

Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in marketing, business administration or closely related field; six (6) years experience in tourism or convention marketing, sales or research including two (2) years in the supervisory aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
