NATURE OF WORK
This is paraprofessional technical and clerical work in the collection and presentation of documentation required in the development and administration of the budget.
Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of budget review and amendment functions including staff support and researching, compiling, and verifying information. Work includes performing technical and clerical tasks in the Office of Budget and Management Policy. Work is performed with relative independence on routine technical matters. Work is reviewed through reports and observation of work performance.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Serves as liaison between budget staff and various county divisions.
Assists and supports the budget staff in researching, compiling, and verifying information used in the budget review and amendment process.
Serves as technical resource for budget staff and other department and division personnel.
Prepares routine correspondence for budget staff or administrative superiors; prepares and types routine resolutions; forwards resolutions to the Accounting Division for bookkeeping purposes; prepares Commission materials.
Receives and responds to telephone inquiries from county employees and the general public.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Some knowledge of the basic structure, use, and function of government budget and accounting systems and procedures.
Some knowledge of purchasing, personnel and accounting policies and procedures.
Some knowledge of budget and accounting terminology.
Some knowledge of the organizational structure of county government.
Ability to understand governmental budgetary policies and procedures.
Ability to conduct research, assemble data, and prepare reports.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in the operation of a typewriter and personal computer.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by course work in business math or accounting; experience in general clerical and paraprofessional administrative work including some experience in report preparation; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
