PORT EVERGLADES ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible technical administrative work in the Port Everglades Administration Department.

Work involves the coordination and processing of general administrative assignments relating to personnel, purchasing, record keeping, insurance and research. Work may also include planning, assigning and reviewing the work of clerical support staff. An employee in this class is required to work with considerable initiative in the absence of the superior, and is required to exercise some independent judgement within the framework of established policies and objectives. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of work performance.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Prepares, maintains and participates in the processing of general administrative records and reports, including payroll, personnel and insurance documents.

Prepares written and statistical reports, studies and summaries where data analysis is required.

Assists Port Everglades employees in the resolution of administrative problems, provides guidance concerning policies and procedures.

Provides administrative liaison between various county operational and administrative offices.

Represents administrative superiors at meetings and conferences, as necessary.

May plan, assign and review the work of clerical support staff.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the principles of public administration and organization.

Knowledge of modern office practices systems and equipment.

Knowledge of basic research and survey techniques.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to accomplish work assignments without direct supervision.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in business or public administration or closely related field; experience in a general administrative capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
