Broward Commissioners have given the go ahead for stronger regulations governing aggressive dogs. The regulations aim to provide resources, education, training programs and protocols to reduce aggressive, roaming and mistreated dog incidents throughout Broward County. sun images  New Courthouse Rising as Construction Hits Rapid Pace

Work on the new Broward County Courthouse continues as construction crews have already topped off the fifth floor of the concrete superstructure. The imprint of the building is now evolving as work picks up at the Southeast Sixth Street and Southeast First Avenue site. As the 20-floor project continues, work on the parking garage and the renovation of the adjacent Midrise building is following closely behind. Project managers say the project is on schedule. sun images  Aviation Department Earns National Award For Airport Training Excellence

Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) has earned an Airport News and Training Network (ANTN) Digicast Excellence in Airport Training Award for training completed in calendar year 2012. The award, presented by the American Association of Airport Executives, signifies that BCAD's employees have completed a specified amount of federally mandated airport-specific and continuing education training using ANTN Digicast's Web-based training system. BCAD is one of only 70 airports nationwide to earn the honor for 2012. More...

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is calling for a very active hurricane season and, given the extreme weather we're seeing all across the country, now is the time to prepare. Broward County's Hurricane Kit Shopping Guide provides hurricane preparedness tips such as how to purchase hurricane food and supplies over an eight-week period, create an effective hurricane plan, assemble a first aid kit as well as a pet survival kit.

 

sun images  Libraries Division and the Historical Commission Present "Broward County: In the Beginning - 1913-1915"

The Broward County Historical Commission, located at the historic West Side Grade School, 301 Harmon (S.W. 13) Ave., Fort Lauderdale, will host its June Brown Bag Historical Lunch Program at noon on Thursday, June 20. The program will explore the work of Dr. Cooper C. Kirk, the first County Historian, who in the 1970s researched and documented the manuscripts and other archival material that described the efforts of the small communities north of Miami such as Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Pompano to create a county of their own. Broward Cultural Division, the Florida Small Business Development Center in Broward, and the South Florida Regional Planning Council will offer an informational business plan clinic and workshop to assist artists and creative entrepreneurs on Saturday, June 22, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. The Business Plan Clinic guides participants through preparation of a simple business plan, an essential tool for any artist. sun images  Transit and Regional Partners Celebrate Annual National Dump the Pump Day

On Thursday, June 20, the Eighth Annual National Dump the Pump Day, Broward County Transit will join regional transportation partners Miami-Dade Transit, Palm Tran, South Florida Commuter Services, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail and Florida Department of Transportation, as well as public transportation systems nationwide, to celebrate the use of public transportation as a viable cost saving option. Residents are encouraged to take the pledge to ride public transportation on Dump the Pump Day and to register online for a chance to receive a free monthly pass on Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, Palm Tran or Tri-Rail. Broward County's Office of Economic and Small Business Development in partnership with the Purchasing Division are offering a workshop for local business owners and entrepreneurs to learn about registering as a County vendor, accessing current opportunities and researching past solicitation results. The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, June 20, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Stirling Road Branch Library, 3151 Stirling Road, Hollywood.
