How Do You List Names on Your Mobile Device?
There have been recent incidents where a person’s mobile device
is stolen along with their credit/ATM cards. The thief then sends a text to the victim’s spouse saying “Honey I forget the ATM pin. What is it again?” By the time the victim
is able to inform their spouse that their property has been stolen, the thief
is able to access the checking account and withdraw funds.
Moral of the story:
- Use passwords and patterns available on your mobile device to lock it in the event it is lost or stolen.
- Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, Grandma etc.
- When sensitive information is being asked through texts, confirm by calling back.
- When you're being texted by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet "family and friends" who texted you.
