Wishes for Happy Holidays

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all! There’s certainly a lot going on in the month of December.
I’d like to invite everyone to the 54th Hollywood Beach Candy Cane Parade on December 5th on the Broadwalk beginning at 7:00 pm. The theme this year is “Bells and Bows on the Broadwalk.” This is a really fun community event that features an evening parade with bands, floats and more. Of course, I’ll be riding in the parade again this year but this time, my three grandchildren will join me! If you see me there please make sure to wave.

The Holiday Fantasy of Lights, Broward County’s spectacular drive through holiday lighting event is returning to Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek this year. The 15th edition of the Holiday Fantasy of Lights, with 3 miles of giant animated holiday displays and illuminated trees, is larger than ever blending the favorites of the past and the excitement of new creations by Brandano Displays. You can drive through the Fantasy of Lights through January 2nd. The park opens each night at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 per car Thursday through Sunday with special discount prices of $9.00 per car Monday through Wednesday. There is a flat fee of $35 for buses.

Broward County welcomes the largest cruise ship in the world to Port Everglades this month! Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas now sails year round from Port Everglades. To accommodate this revolutionary cruise ship, the Port has more than tripled the size of Cruise Terminal 18 from 67,500 square feet to 240,000 square feet. The second sister-ship, Allure of the Seas will begin year-round sailings in 2011. The addition of these two ships is expected to make Port Everglades the No. 1 cruise port in the world.

Every year I ask Broward County residents to give the gift of food to hungry families living in our communities. The Fall Festival of Food drive is underway. Collection boxes are set up at all Broward County buildings, including the downtown Governmental Center, Broward County libraries and courthouses. Non-perishable foods are appreciated along with disposable diapers. The food drive will benefit many agencies that distribute food to the needy. Demand is very high right now, so please give what you can!

If have an issue or idea that you’d like to discuss please feel free to call me at (954) 357-7006 or send me an e-mail at sgunzburger@broward.org.

Let me close by wishing you a Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year! I wish the very best for you and your families!
