Purpose:
To serve as a regional resource for a growing, constantly changing selection of exhibitions, programs, and events chronicling art and culture.  Accredited by the American Association of Museums


Projects:
A Diverse menu of exhibitions, along with an ambitious education program offering art classes in a variety of media and subjects for all ages and skill levels, and weekly and monthly special events, lectures, and gallery events. Permanent collections include American and European modern and contemporary art, Picasso ceramics, contemporary Cuban art, as well as a comprehensive collection of works by American Impressionist William Glackens and one of the country’s largest collections of work by the Northern European artist from the movement known as CoBrA (for Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam). Docent led tours available. Museum Store Café sells gifts, books, jewelry and ceramics as well as gourmet coffee drinks and wine.  Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale National Art Festival January 31 and February 1, 2009 is a high –caliber juried art show where the public can meet and chat with over 150 artists from around the world while enjoying a variety of media including painting, sculpture, glass, mixed-media, ceramics, metalwork, photography, jewelry and much more.

Description:
An impressive permanent collection of over 5,250 works of art. This includes: 20th-century European and American art by internationally acclaimed artists; the most comprehensive collection of the work of the American Impressionist, William Glackens; the largest collection of post-World War II Northern Expressionist CoBrA art in the Americas; one of the finestcollections of African and Oceanic, Pre-Columbian, and Native American art in Florida.
