Raymond Olivero
"Purusha-Sakti"
Painting - Oil
53" x 80"
2000
Central Regional Family Success Center
On a golden yellow background/water surface, artist Raymond Olivero placed at the center, a sabre palm trunk (without any frond shown) entangled with some blue hue flowering plants (water hyacinth?), casting their black shadow and partially obscuring two stylized white face masks flanking at two sides. The same masks in smaller version are repeated on the upper and lower borders of the painting. This intriguing artwork is installed at the Center lobby area.
"All of the selected paintings express the artist's attempt to fuse a variety of cultural views and motifs into a coherent aesthetic whole. In this sense, the artworks are related to the function and goals of the community center."
