The New York based artist team of Bill and Mary Buchen (SonArc, Inc.) has created dozens of public artworks and imaginative installations for museums, galleries and public sites in the U.S., Europe and Asia that highlight environmental phenomena examined through its application to science, architecture, ecology and world cultures. The team is well known for creating dynamic interactive sound based sculptures for parks and plazas that fascinate and educate youngsters at schools and Childrens Museums around the nation, and Bill is also an accomplished professional musician.

The artists have participated as members of numerous design teams creating public art plans for transit projects including San Francisco’s 3rd Street Light Rail Transit System, the St. Louis Arts in Transit Streetscape and Park, the Westside Station for New Jersey Transit and the Transit Link project between Long Island City and Manhattan, NY.  Recent public art projects include an installation of sculptural shade pavilions, fences and landscape elements for Cleveland Square Park in El Paso, TX, a 40 foot tower commemorating the centennial of Frisco, TX, and several interactive sound based artworks for Green Valley Ranch Park in Denver, CO. They have received many prestigious awards including two projects recognized by the 2008 Americans for the Arts Year in Review, and several fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
