The well-regarded 2009 Arts Recognition Award was presented this March to ArtServe by Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Secretary of State Kurt Browning, the Florida Department of State, the Florida Arts Council and the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. Nancy Spielman, ‘Doggedly’ Pursuing Her Art http://www.broward.org/arts/cq_online/html/nancy_spielman.html Close scrutiny of an oversized painting created by South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship recipient Nancy Spielman reveals detailed brushstrokes. But stepping back, the details merge in large chromatic grays and blues revealing a nose, eyes, ears and mouth - the happy face of her loyal dog Charlie. ‘Nothing to Something' A Mural Grows at Taravella http://www.broward.org/arts/cq_online/html/on_the_arts.html EThe garden and its colorful flowers were surrounded by four blank walls. Inspired by the science teachers’ success in writing and receiving a grant to fund the butterfly project, the art teachers thought that they might be able to pursue a similar course of action so that their students could create a permanent artwork on one of the walls.  Emerging Cultural Leaders benefit from a year in the program http://www.broward.org/arts/cq_online/html/emerging_cultural_leader.html The Broward Cultural Council’s Emerging Cultural Leaders Program seeks to cultivate Broward County’s next generation of cultural leadership by focusing attention on people who have the will and desire to develop cultural leadership skills. The initiative enables young professionals to enhance leadership skills, build relationships with business and community leaders, and productively contribute to civic life, cultural development, and gain recognition within causes that stir their passion. We are pleased to profile two of the participants in this program below.
